As of last night, Paddy Power’s popular Twitter account (@PaddyPower) has been suspended for reasons yet unknown.
The social media platform has blocked the Paddy Power account showing no active feed, posting a generic message that reads ‘Twitter suspends accounts that violate the Twitter Rules’.
Twitter’s suspension of @PaddyPower, has sent the bookmaker’s followers into rumour overdrive, however, it remains unknown why the bookmaker has been blocked.
In its help centre, Twitter states that it serves the right to suspend accounts that have breached its spam policy, been hacked, found to be abusive or violated its platform behaviour rules.
Paddy Power has the largest following of any bookmaker on Twitter, with a reported +630,000 followers, nearly double the amount of its closest competitor bet365 (360,000 followers). The bookmaker has detailed numerous times that it views Twitter and Facebook as key drivers for its marketing and customer engagement strategy.
At present all other Paddy Power syndicated Twitter accounts remain open. The bookmaker has made no comment as yet on its Twitter suspension.
UPDATE – The main Paddy Power account was back online Tuesday morning, with no indication of why it had been suspended, but with a typical company message:
