Sportsbet.io has announced that the NBA’s Tristan Thompson has become its latest global ambassador.
For the next two years, the Cleveland Cavaliers center and 2016 NBA Championship winner will look to bring his playing experience and ‘passion for cryptocurrency’ to the Yolo Group-owned brand.
Meanwhile, the Canadian player will also be sharing his views on the latest action for Sportsbet.io, where fans can take part in promotions.
Shane Anderson, Director of Partnership, Content and Brand at Yolo Entertainment, said: “We’d like to give a huge Sportsbet.io welcome to Tristan, an elite athlete whose passion for both basketball and cryptocurrency makes him a perfect match for us.
“We’re thrilled to have him on the team, and we already have some exciting plans in the works. Watch this space.”
The operator reported that Thompson has been a vocal supporter of Bitcoin. The deal will see him providing weekly betting tips on a range of sports, including NFL, MLB, European soccer, tennis, golf, UFC and boxing.
Thompson joins Sportsbet’s growing roster of ambassadors, such as cricket legend Brett Lee and Kenyan rapper King Kaka.
“Sportsbet.io brings together my two biggest passions: sports and cryptocurrency,” added Thompson on his new role.
“I’ve been following the crypto sector for some time now and have seen how transformative it can be. There’s no better place to combine that with my love of sports than Sportsbet.io.”
This week, the brand also inked a deal with the World Snooker Tour (WST) to become the official partner of three of the sport’s key tournaments in 2025.
By collaborating with the crypto sportsbook, WST was looking to step up its engagement with the betting sector in yet another deal showcasing sports’ closeness to both gaming and cryptocurrency.
