The Premier League transfer window: bookies banking on some ‘fire sales’

Stats Perform retains EPL data rights in ‘easy decision’ for FDC

Sportstech provider Stats Perform has secured a renewal to its partnership with FootballDataCo (FDC), the data rights holder of English and Scottish top-flight football.

The agreement covers several data rights packages for a 10-year period starting from the 2024/25 season, encompassing the English Premier League (EPL), Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) and English Football League (EFL).

Included in the agreement is official rights to player market data for betting – including player stats such as shots on target for both pre-match and in-play wagering – which will be distributed to sportsbooks and daily fantasy sports (DFS) operators.

Stats Perform Chief Commercial Officer, Alex Rice, said: “At Stats Perform we are committed owners of our large, deep Opta football data API. We think carefully about how and what we collect, how we store the data, but more importantly how we distribute and use it to help our customers tell more memorable stories about the on-field action.

“We continue to develop new statistics like possession value, expected pass completion and momentum that deepen fans’ emotional connections to the teams and players they follow, across all platforms and channels, and make the games matter more.

“We are honoured that our investment in collecting, generating and distributing the fastest, most accurate detailed data with the utmost professionalism has again been recognised by Football DataCo.”

Also included under the renewed partnership is AI-backed official insight data to sports broadcasters and media outlets, and official player tracking data to a range of league rights holders.

The renewal of London-based Stats Perform’s English and Scottish football rights maintains its standing in international sports data distribution. The firm currently holds Spanish La Liga, French Ligue 1, German Bundesliga and Italian Serie A rights, although the latter are due to go to tender for the 2024/25 campaign.

Commenting on the extension with Stats Perform, Adrian Ford, FDC General Manager, remarked: “It was an easy decision to extend the long-established FDC partnership with Stats Perform.

“The value of data in building trusted fan and bettor experiences continues to grow, and that enhances the reputation of our competitions, wherever they are enjoyed. Opta is a key enabler for all the Leagues’ stakeholders and fans, who want the best data and insights.”
