Genius Sports provides ‘crucial visibility’ over global betting in the A Leagues

Genius Sports has been named the official data partner of the Isuzu UTE A-League Men (ALM) and Liberty A-League Women (ALW) for their 2022-23 season.

Through the firm’s 24/7 bet monitoring technology and educational services, the exclusive deal, formed with the Australian Professional Leagues (APL), aims to protect Australian football from match-fixing and betting-related corruption.

The data company outlined that by cross-referencing real-time odds movements with predictive algorithms, its monitoring system will provide ‘crucial visibility’ over global betting on the both leagues and automatically flag potentially suspicious activity.

“Australian football is expanding rapidly with participation, engagement and broadcast numbers all showing exciting growth in recent years” added John Curzon, Head of Australasia, Sportstech at Genius Sports.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with the A-Leagues at this critical stage of its global expansion, connecting Australian soccer with millions of fans around the world as their exclusive official data partner.”

Genius Sports has been granted the exclusive rights to capture, manage and distribute official data from every A-Leagues match to give out to its network of sportsbook partners.

Michael Tange, Director of Strategy and Digital for the APL, commented: “Genius are global leaders in data and integrity services and we are delighted to be building this partnership with them. Data underpins the Australian Professional Leagues’ strategy to make football Australia’s most entertaining sport.”

Meanwhile, the leagues have also committed to deploying Genius Sports’ optical tracking systems in select venues.

Genius is also the official data and integrity partner to further major sports leagues such as the NFL and English Premier League.

Earlier this month, Genius Sports notably settled its long-running dispute with Sportradar on the data collection and distribution rights of English and Scottish football.

The sportstech rivals confirmed that they had reached a joint settlement on the data rights and exclusivity terms for the Premier League, English Football League (EFL) and Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL), granted by Football DataCo (FDC).

This legal conflict dated back to 2020, when Sportradar challenged the legal structure of Genius’ ‘exclusive data rights’ agreement with FDC.
