EastEnders the UK’s most viewed TV soap opera’s latest ‘whodunit’ mystery storyline is set to grip the UK TV public. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this week the TV show will air its first ever ‘live episode week’, were the show’s climax will reveal the killer of Lucy Beale.
EastEnders ‘live episode week’ has been described as the biggest event in UK TV soap opera history, as UK bookmakers have been quick to offer markets on the killer of the murder mystery.
Today Coral UK PR Manager John Hill stated that bookmaker had slashed odds from 66/1 to 6/1 on character Mick Carter (played by Danny Dyer) being revealed as the killer.
This latest gamble on Mick Carter is very interesting as he had been largely unbacked since we opened betting back in April, however, all of a sudden, we have been rushed over with bets on the character over the last couple of days
The popularity of the soap opera’s current storyline in the UK has created interesting marketing and social media trends.
Paul Reilly Managing Director of Media Skunk Works operators of novelty betting portal Flashbitch.com commented on the TV Show
“EastEnders is about to reach its conclusion and we’re expecting BBC TV to crank up the hype machine as we move into the last two weeks before the killer’s identity is revealed. BBC EastEnders’ Facebook page has 3,565,831 likes, it’s a part of the UK’s psyche, most of the nation are sat on the edge of their seats.”
