Betfred owner Fred Done may just be the most generous man in gambling. This March Done, a lifelong Manchester United fan, ordered Betfred management to refund £200,000 to Manchester United fans who had high hopes on their football club retaining the Barclays Premier League title.
This week Betfred announced that Fred Done would sponsor the Bolton Hospice’s eighth annual Midnight Memories Walk. The eight mile walk allows participants to raise money for the hospice. Fred Done who resides near Bolton, is set to participate in the event, which will have a Wild West theme and will include live music acts.
Salford Born Done, co-founded Betfred as an independent retail bookmaker in 1967 with his brother Peter. In 2013 The Sunday Times Rich-List reported the Done brothers’ private wealth to be an estimated £660 million.
Maria Passarello, events manager at Bolton Hospice, commented to Lancashire newspaper – The Bolton News: “We are delighted to have the generous sponsorship from Bet Fred. Their support will be significant to this event and we are looking forward to working with all their staff to make this a great success.
“I would like to urge everyone to join us on the walk to make it a night to remember for you. Every step you take will count.”
