Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s Gambling Inspectorate, has been ordered by the government to examine the effectiveness of national gambling self-exclusion scheme Spelpaus.se.
The command has seen Spelinspektionen launch a ‘dedicated survey’ to secure lived-experience feedback from Spelpaus users.
The inspectorate informed: “We turn to those of you who are or have been banned from Spelpaus.se with the question of whether you want to participate in our survey.
“The questions concern, among other things, the reason for your suspension and whether there is information or other things that are missing on the Spelpaus.se website.”
Spelpaus was originally launched on 1 January 2019, to coincide with the relaunch of Sweden’s reformed gambling sector, which regulated online gambling services.
Last year, Spelpaus was upgraded with a new website and system functionalities as a key directive of the government’s ‘revision of the gambling market’.
The Spelpaus 2.0 upgrades allowed for immediate self-exclusion, with customers simply choosing a ‘shutdown period’ and ‘ID verification’ for Bank-ID.
Further new functionalities allowed self-excluded players to instantly request to prolong their self-exclusion periods.
Spelpaus, which registered +80,000 users during 2022, is managed centrally by Spelinspektionen. The Inspectorate’s survey will run until 15 May, with participation anonymous.
