Michael Ahearne steps down from GiG board to focus on SkyCity CEO duties

Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has confirmed a change in its Board of Directors, as Michael Ahearne steps down from his position to refocus on other projects.

Ahearne is CEO of SkyCity Entertainment Group, and became part of GiG’s board on 1 April 2022 following the latter’s acquisition of Sportnco Gaming SAS.

To support the takeover, SkyCity invested €25m in GiG through a directed share issue at NOK 18.00 (€1.6) per share, equal to 13.4 million new GiG shares, which were used to finance the cash element of the acquisition.

With SkyCity becoming a stakeholder in the Malta-based sportsbook and igaming solutions provider, Ahearne became the company’s representative on the GiG Board.

GiG stated: “Ahearne has closely followed the development of GiG during this period and is pleased with GiG’s operations and the Company’s position within the igaming industry.”

As stated above, Ahearne is CEO of SkyCity, and after stepping down from as representative at GIG will focus on his commitments with his company in New Zealand and Australia.

SkyCity will continue to be represented in GiG’s nomination committee and will participate in proposing a board composition to the firm’s annual shareholder meeting in May.

GiG detailed that the ideal board will have “an adequate breadth of competence, experience and background and will contribute to a continued positive development for GiG”.

As it stands, GiG’s Board will continue to consist of Petter Nylander as Chairman and Nicolas Adlercreutz, Kathryn Moore Baker, Mikael Riese Harstad, Kjetil Garstad and Hessi Mocca as Directors.
