Pronet Gaming has confirmed the appointment of Mark Schmidt as its Director of Sales for Africa, who will be charged with accelerating commercial growth across the continent.
Lauded as a key executive hire, Schmidt holds 11-years experience working within African wagering and sports markets, having most recently led Africa and Middle East commercial development for IMG Arena.
Beyond Schmidt’s proven track record in commercial development, Pronet highlighted the executive’s first-hand experience of working within African betting markets, having previously served as Sportsbook Manager of Durban-based bookmaker Hollywood Bets.
Backing the appointment of Schmidt as African markets commercial lead, Pronet Chief Commercial Officer Bobby Longhurst said: “Given our fast-growing presence in Africa it’s fantastic to now have Mark at the helm of our regional expansion to bring in new commercial opportunities.
“Having people on the ground is extremely important in these markets and with his track record of growing businesses in the region I’m confident he’ll play an incremental part in our future.”
In 2019, Pronet undertook a strategic overhaul of its technology and platform solutions, seeking to become the lead omni-channel systems provider for gambling incumbents within the developing markets of Africa and Asia.
Mark Schmidt commented on his appointment: “Pronet Gaming is quickly making a name for itself across Africa with a local approach to doing business and products that meet the nuanced needs of individual markets. It is an exciting time to join the company as a result and I look forward to being a part of the next phase of its journey.
