Genius Sports shores up US standing with BetVision NFL launch

Genius Sports has taken another step in its transatlantic journey whilst bolstering its position as the provider of NFL betting data and streams in the North American market.

The London-based sportstech firm is taking its new product, BetVision – an NFL betting and streaming platform – exclusively live in the US. . Bettors using the app will be able to wager on live NFL games within the live video player of a sportsbook app.

Initial partners for the launch are Caesars Sportsbook and Fanatics Sportsbook, streaming nationally distributed and locally regionalised NFL games per week via the platform.

Mark Locke, Genius Sports CEO, said: “BetVision is leading a new era of immersive sports experiences. The launch brings together our capabilities across data tracking, video streaming, live data and sports wagering to create a game-changing product for sportsbooks.

“Sports fans and bettors alike increasingly demand personalised interaction, greater customization and deeper insights combined with an ability to strike a bet seamlessly.

“BetVision alone offers precisely that, while giving sportsbooks a new way to drive engagement and accelerate the growth of in-game betting.”

As mentioned above, the new product launch marks a significant moment for Genius’ US journey, also marking a milestone for Caesars and Fanatics as the duo expand their in-play betting capabilities.

As the product matures over the remainder of the 2023 American football season, Genius has plans for additional features and functionality to be incorporated into the platform.

With the US sports betting scene having expanded rapidly since the repeal of PASPA in 2018, many sports data and tech suppliers have sought to seize the opportunities of the space.

Genius is perhaps one of the biggest examples of this, with the company establishing a powerful foothold by securing the position as the global strategic data partner of the NFL back in 2021.

The firm has since listed on the NYSE and is making strides in terms of revenue, reporting a 17% uptick to $184.1m in its H1 trading update last month, whilst also reducing losses by 21% to $35.5m (H1 2022: $44.9m).

Specifics of its latest product include mobile and tablet functionality, offering betting odds and bet slips, in-game betting alerts and on-stream offers. Genius’ NFL content will also come with live augmentations such as data-derived insights, graphic overlays and visualisations.

Brent Lawton, VP Business Development & Strategic Investments of the NFL, added: “We’re very pleased to be Genius’ first BetVision content partner as they continue to be on the cutting edge of sports betting experiences, BetVision allows us to create a differentiated way for fans to engage with NFL content.”
