Pixbet licence approval strengthens WeAreGame’s position in Brazil

WeAreGame, the sportsbook and igaming platform provider, has seen its position in Brazil strengthened by the news that its client Pixbet has been approved for a sports betting licence in Rio de Janeiro.

Loterj, the Permanent Bidding Committee of the Lottery of the State of Rio de Janeiro, has confirmed that Pixbet has achieved the first stage of the accreditation for sports betting, meaning it is set to become the second licensed operator to go live in the jurisdiction.

Rio de Janeiro became the first state in Brazil to launch a regulated sports betting market at the start of June when Rede Loto was awarded a licence for its LotoCarioca sportsbook. 

Further operators are expected to enter the market in the coming months, as the regulations do not include a limit on the number of licences available and Loterj is ready to consider new applicants.

The online Pixbet sportsbook and casino is already a familiar brand to Brazilian bettors, as it is a partner of more than 15 sports clubs across the country, including three-time Copa Libertadores winners Flamengo. 

WeAreGame, a collaboration between the WeAreTechnology Group and BelloaTechnologies, powers a number of Pixbet’s products via its WeArePlatform technology, including the PixBet Fantasy 5 fantasy football game, the PixBet.tv video offering, and the PixJogos free-to-play site.

Reacting to news of the licence approval in Rio de Janeiro, a spokesperson for the supplier said: “WeAreGame is proud to be the platform provider of Pixbet and we wish everyone at Pixbet the best of luck in further solidifying their position as the go-to brand for sports betting in Brazil.”

Meanwhile, efforts to establish a federal sports betting regime in Brazil are continuing, although progress is slower than the industry had hoped. Moves are currently stalled, as the Government will not act on the Ministry of Finance’s proposal for a regulated market until a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry reports on its investigation into claims of match-fixing in Brazilian football.
