Julian Wheeler joins SIS to lead technology programmes

Julian Wheeler has been appointed as the Chief Technology Officer of SIS (Sports Information Services), coordinating the technological efforts of its long-term expansion plans.

The new appointee will be tasked with leading delivery of SIS’ technology programmes and formulating a single strategy across its Architecture, Broadcast Engineering, IT Infrastructure, Programme Management, Service Delivery and Software Engineering teams.

SIS, a multi-channel 24/7 live betting services supplier, hopes that the new hire will bring technical know-how to its Senior Management Team, as it moves forward with its goal of enhancing diversification and its international growth strategy.

Richard Ames, SIS CEO said: “Julian’s vast experience in broadcasting and within large-scale organisations makes him an invaluable addition to the business and our leadership team.

“He will lead our technical strategy as we continue to expand into new markets with a comprehensive range of products covering a breadth of verticals. His knowledge and expertise will have significant benefits for our business and will sharpen our technological capabilities.”

Wheeler brings 21 years experience in broadcasting to his new position, having previously held roles at Sky New Zealand – including five years as Chief Technology and Product Officer.

Additional positions have seen him work as Director of Digital Media at BT, Head of IT at BskyB and Chief Product and Technology Officer at revenue management solutions firm Xplor.

He joins SIS as the firm continues to work towards consolidating its position as an international betting services provider, having entered into an esoccer supply deal with Polish operator Betfan and a live racing content agreement with Codere – focused on Argentina – last month.

Wheeler added: “The growth journey of SIS has been fascinating to see from the outside and I look forward to working alongside a talented team that has made rapid progress in extending its offering in recent times.

“SIS has made great strides in expanding internationally and my role is to lead the way in shaping a future-proofed technological strategy that can continue to meet the needs of our operator partners.”

SIS is set to showcase insights on next-generation racing trading innovations at an SBC Webinar on 10 March, alongside its partner Racelab.
