Draw specialists Liverpool help bookies bounce back – AccaTracker analysis

anfieldLiverpool proved to be a big draw for punters this weekend, and a great draw for bookmakers. Mane’s late equaliser for Southampton at Anfield, coupled with the stale stalemate at Old Trafford between the two Manchester Clubs mean it was a Super Sunday for the odds setters, and not so hot for punters.

According to data from AccaTracker, the mobile app developed by Team FA that helps users keep track of their multiple bets, bookmakers also got a fillip from the fact that the Manchester derby ended goalless as there was also a strong push in the both teams to score market.

Saturday was also an excellent day for bookmakers with three unexpected results in the top five most popular matches. Leicester and Arsenal may have won at home, but Brighton failed to overturn Preston North End in the Championship, Watford came away from Stoke City with all three points and, of course, Mourinho and his men imploded at West Ham United.

Team FA marketing director Tim Pindar commented: “After an expensive previous weekend, bookmakers will have made back the bulk of the cash already after such favourable results. With only Arsenal winning out of the ‘big’ teams, punters can be forgiven for wondering if they can trust any side to be a banker. Certainly the faith that punters have in this Chelsea side must be at its lowest ebb for the last ten years given that they have now lost half their ten matches.”
