The Times – Sportech considering Football Pools sale

footballpoolsThe Times has reported that Sportech Plc is considering the potential sale of its UK Football Pools business.

The Liverpool based betting pools and wagering systems operator who recorded a 5% decline in EBITDA earnings to £24 million, are reported to be open to listening to offers as the company looks to focus on expanding its US facing racing division.

In 2014 Sportech had re-designed and re-branded its Football Pools offering in a bid to boost the products performance and entice new players through its digital channels. However in its 2014 performance report Sportech recorded a further vertical earnings decline to £16 million (FY 2013: 17.4 million).

Sportech’s Football Pools has seen a declining performance in both player numbers and product revenues since 2008. In its latest corporate result statement Sportech had written down £28 million against the value of its football poll vertical.

At its peak the Football Pools had over ten million UK players who would play through its partnerships with UK retailers Littlewoods, Vernons and Zetters. Today the number of Football Pools players has fallen to +300,000.

The Times reports that Sportech is keen to focus in furthering its operations within the US market, as the operator looks to expand its US state racing wagering and gambling systems.

In April Sportech Racing its US Subsidairy had been granted a Casino Service Industry Enterprise Licence by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE).
