Genius Sport deal set to commercialize TBT to sportsbooks

A recently signed partnership between Genius Sport and The Basketball Tournament (TBT) was completed with the goal of launching a new digital and fan engagement strategy, powered by real-time data. 

The deal which is set to improve the coverage of the tournament has also allowed TBT to commercialize its live data with licensed sportsbooks.  

Travis Black, head of U.S. & emerging sports at Genius Sports, elaborated on the possibilities brought by the deal: “With its fast-paced games, young and mobile audience, an enhanced live data and digital strategy presents TBT with a number of exciting opportunities. Our advanced technology and split-second distribution capabilities will provide new levels of insight, bringing TBT fans closer to the action, presenting new revenue opportunities and expanding its global audience.”

With recently legalized sports betting sweeping across the U.S.A, this partnership will now enable TBT to reach new audiences and enhance the in-game experience by lew of commercialization. 

Moreover, TBT will now be safeguarded against match-fixing and betting-related corruption thanks to global bettings ‘round-the-clock’ monitoring of every match.

Jon Mugar, TBT Founder and CEO, conveyed his excitement, commenting: “We’re excited to begin a long-term partnership with Genius Sports this summer. Its state-of-the-art technology not only will markedly improve the TBT experience for fans, but it also will help us meet increasing demand for TBT worldwide by enabling us the ability to distribute stats all across the world instantly.”

TBT is set to tip of on Friday 19th July and will be televised on ESPN. The 64-team contest will run for over two weeks, before the final is played on August 6th, with the winning team taking home the $2m cash prize.
