Kresimir Spajic has been confirmed as the new CEO of Betfred USA, the stateside-facing venture of UK heritage omnichannel operator Betfred.
Betfred USA is currently active in 10 US states, and in the leadership position Spajic will be tasked with continuing the rollout of its strategy and operations across the country.
From its headquarters in Warrington, Greater Manchester, Betfred has set up a foundation of over 1,400 retail outlets across the UK as well as an online sportsbook and casino, and has been taking its product to the North American scene since 2020.
Spajic remarked: “I’m truly excited to embark on this journey as the CEO of Betfred USA. I am looking forward to working with our exceptional domestic and global talent and partners.
“Together, we aim to build a sustainable business in the US by delivering unparalleled value and support to our customers while upholding a strong commitment to responsible gaming.”
Whilst many US operators – including European-founded firms which have been seeking to get in on the stateside gold rush – have focused heavily on online operations, Betfred USA has placed a stronger emphasis than most on retail betting.
Having gone live in Nevada, Ohio and Colorado, among other territories, the company’s operations in the former state – widely recognised as one of the world’s flagship gaming markets – reached a head earlier this year with the launch of a Las Vegas casino sportsbook.
Fred Done, Betfred Founder, remarked: “It’s an important and exciting time for our US business and Kresimir is the ideal person to further push and expand the Betfred brand in America.”
Spajic’s background consists of a range of executive and consulting roles at prominent igaming businesses, including Great Canadian Entertainment, Apollo Global Management, Hard Rock International, Rush Street Interactive, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, and Entain’s Bwin brand.
“We are delighted with the appointment of Kresimir Spajic,” added Betfred Group Chief Executive Joanne Whittaker.
“Our team in the US have worked tirelessly to expand our operation and with Kresimir’s vast experience, we have the right person to take our US business to the next level.”
In a separate change to Betfred USA’s c-level leadership, Chief Operating Officer Bryan Bennett announced on LinkedIn that he would be departing from the role.
Bennett’s tenure with the firm saw the aforementioned rollout of its retail estate across the 10 states as well as implementation of its sponsorship and marketing strategy, which he broke down to SBC Media in an interview this year.
Commenting on Betfred USA’s incoming CEO on LinkedIn, Bennett said: “The job is far from finished, but I’m leaving a solid foundation in the very capable hands of Kresimir Spajic, whose recent appointment as US CEO provides a very bright future for the company.”
