Robert Mabbett, 37, has been confirmed as Betfred’s first ever winner in the SIS/Racing Post Betting Shop Manager of the Year.

robert-mabbettMabbett, the North-East champion for his work in Brough, East Yorkshire, was declared the overall winner amongst the eight regional champions picked from an entry list involving high achievers from betting offices all over Britain and Ireland.

Fred Done, Betfred Founder, said: “I am absolutely delighted we have won this prestigious award for the first time and all credit to Robert Mabbett. He will be a great ambassador for our industry. I would like to thank all the judges and everyone involved in this competition. This award is for everyone who works in our betting shops.”

Helen Scott, Customer Relations Manager at SIS, added: “Yet again, we were treated to eight excellent performances at final judging, each year the quality and calibre never ceases to impress. All of us in this industry should feel extremely lucky and proud that we have such talent representing us on the high street. Congratulations to Robert and his team, a very deserving champion.”

Mabbett, who declared himself ‘absolutely made up’, will go on a VIP trip to the Emirates Singapore Derby next July courtesy of the Singapore Turf Club, and will be invited to Belle Vue next month to make a presentation at the RPGTV Oaks and Laurels gala, live on Sky Sports. He takes over the ambassadorial role from 2015 champion Matt Howe, a Ladbrokes manager from Birmingham.
