Leading odds comparison site Easyodds.com has struck a partnership with actor and former  footballer Vinnie Jones, in which the FA Cup winner will write weekly articles on the firm’s website.

To find out how this unlikely partnership came into fruition we caught up with Easyodds.com’s CEO David da Silva to discuss how Jones first got involved with the company, the impact it will have on the site, and the importance of odds comparison platforms.

______________

SBC: How much of an impact do you think having Vinnie Jones on board will have on the Easyodds brand and website?

David da Silva (CEO – Easyodds.com): Easyodds.com has been around for almost 20 years but has been relatively quiet over the past few years. One of the reasons we partnered with Vinnie Jones is to shake things up and to highlight the fact that Easyodds.com has been revived and is back in the game. We expect the association with Vinnie Jones to amplify the Easyodds.com brand and introduce us to a new audience interested in sports and betting.

SBC: What attracted Vinnie Jones to Easyodds?

DDS: Like all modern romances, we met on the internet! Easyodds.com is running a competition to give away signed Vinnie Jones memorabilia from his days playing for Leeds United. We tagged Vinnie Jones in our tweets when we launched the competition to get his attention. The tactic worked and Vinnie replied. Turns out we struck a chord and the banter grew from there. We continued the dialogue behind the scenes and the more we discussed a partnership, the more the synergies became apparent.

Like us, Vinnie Jones is passionate about sports and he’s not averse to a flutter. Like Vinnie, Easyodds.com is no-nonsense and always on the side of the punter. It just makes perfect sense.

SBC: How crucial do you feel having eyes on independent odds comparison sites, such as yourself, is for punters?

DDS: Importantly, unlike a number of other comparison sites, we are not owned by a bookmaker. As bookmakers consolidate they reduce competitive market pressures which is bad news for punters. The need for objective and independent odds comparison has never been greater. At Easyodds.com we consider ourselves the punters’ champion – we’re on their side to help them find the best value deals across all sports and betting markets.

SBC: Apart from guest writing for the website, are there any other duties Vinne Jones will partake in as part of this partnership?

DDS: We’re hatching lots of plans for our collaboration beyond the weekly article. All I can say is “watch this space!”

SBC: Finally, do you feel that by being able to attract such a high profile footballer to the website it shows how odds comparison sites are rising in popularity and importance?

DDS: This is a great question because it goes to the heart of what we are about at Easyodds.com. We believe that our site should serve a number of useful purposes for punters. Clearly odds comparison is critical – that goes without saying – but we have also identified a number of areas where we can bring entertainment and utility to the online betting community.

We have recognised the need for an online property to sit between mainstream generalist sports media outlets and the highly sophisticated but ultimately transactional bookmakers. Responsible betting has always been a fun activity that genuinely enhances the enjoyment fans can extract from their favourite sports.

Easyodds.com helps fans navigate betting opportunities across all sports whilst identifying the best deals so they can maximise returns. Our goal is to make Easyodds.com the first port of call for sports bettors.
