EA Sports announces $1.3m FIFA 17 prize pool

To coincide with Gamescon in Cologne, EA Sports has made some new revelations about next month’s FIFA 17 release.

Alongside a new trailer it has been announced that there’ll be a new Ultimate Team Championship Series with a $1.3m (£999,000) prize pool. It was anticipated that the new edition of FIFA would have a far greater focus on esports than any other previously, and this news confirms that it’s more than living up to this expectation.

The Chief of EA’s Competitive Gaming Division Peter Moore said: “The popularity of Ultimate Team, combined with the global nature of the most popular sports franchise on the planet, makes FIFA 17 a very exciting title for a season of competitive gaming like the one we are announcing today.

“We want all players to experience the thrill of competition, and we have a great season ahead for all our fans.”
