Exclusive: Co-Founder Ryan Coombs tells SBC that the next wave of sports betting and fan engagement innovations lies in unlocking true personalisation, powered by advanced predictive sports data at LuckBox Studios

The venture is led by CEO and Co-Founder Ryan Coombs, alongside COO Mat Turk, who see a “clear and present opportunity” to disrupt the current dynamics of sports betting product, which has been stifled by legacy technologies.
An expert in trading and product development, Ryan Coombs is the former CEO of SportCast, the business which invented the first ‘BetBuilder/Same Game Parlay’ solution and was sold to OpenBet in 2021.
Following a break, Coombs teamed up with Mat Turk, former Co-Founder and COO of SportCast, to launch LuckBox Studios and drive its mission to engineer the “most comprehensive sports forecasting ecosystem, delivering unparalleled value to sports businesses and fans globally”.
The founders believe that the timing is perfect for their technology to leverage A.I advancements, to deliver differentiating fan experiences that engage fragmented sports audiences and benefit all stakeholders.
Speaking to SBC, Coombs explained: “We are building technology that harnesses a forecasting engine to produce proprietary predictive sports data – our data will be available on request at any point before, during, and after the event.”
“The data/probabilities/odds can be used across a multitude of sports industries, but we see a clear and present opportunity to disrupt both betting and fantasy products while also producing relevant and proprietary content for digital media.”
Coombs emphasised the simplicity of LuckBox Studios’ vision to “maximise the growth of sport through the power of forecasting” as an underserved technology and data discipline that can benefit global stakeholders.
Of distinction, Coombs and Turk have assembled a dynamic leadership team of six, with a combined 80+ years in sports betting product, engineering and data modelling, to bolster LuckBox Studios’ mission.
The team is strengthened by former SportCast executive Pat Turk, who will serve as Chief Product Officer (CPO), with over 10 years of sports betting experience, and Matthew Rix as Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), bringing more than 20 years of experience, most recently serving as Chief Trading and Operations Officer at Pointsbet.
Mark Harris joins as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), bringing two decades of development expertise from his leadership in engineering at SportCast/OpenBet,
Meanwhile, Matthew Kerr takes on the role of Chief Data Science Officer. Kerr’s 13 years experience in the industry saw him pioneer the BetBuilder solution at bet365 and most recently serve as Lead Data Scientist at Angstrom, the sports forecasting business acquired by Entain for £125m.
