Maksym Liashko, Parimatch Tech: Life, work and defence in Ukraine

Finding the balance between life and work can be tricky in any business, but for Parimatch Tech a new dimension was added this year when its home country was thrown into turmoil.

The Kyiv-founded enterprise, now headquartered in Cyprus but with strong links to and operations in its homeland, has played an active role in supporting the Ukrainian public in the face of Russia’s invasion.

In the months since Russia’s attack on its western neighbour back in February, Parimatch has sought to continue making use of Ukrainian talent, whilst adopting a flexible strategy of reacting quickly to daily news from the country, explained CEO Maksym Liashko. “There is a lot of talent inside Ukraine, especially in the gaming and entertainment industry,” he said. “I feel that during this period of months, Ukrainian people have changed how they work and live in such situations, with the war.

“On the working process and defence process, people are finding a new balance on how to live with this. Even before we tried to find the life and work balance, whilst now we are trying to find the life, work and defence balance.”

On a business-wide scale, Parimatch Tech has been undergoing a period of transformation – as described by Deputy CEO Anna Motruk in a separate interview at SBC Summit Barcelona

This has included a reorganisation of its leadership, with technology experts taking a key role in influencing c-level decisions throughout the recent history of the enterprise.

Parimatch Tech is currently seeking to broaden its scope, appealing not just to betting operators with its tech but to a multitude of industries, whilst also maintaining its B2C Parimatch sportsbook franchise.

“We need to be fast, that is one of the main things,” Liashko told SBC Media. “I can say that I am completely happy with our team, I feel that everyone in our company changed their values during the last several months, not only in our company but in general in Ukraine.

“We changed our motivations as to why we are working so hard on a global level. When we speak with our employees before the war, there was normal motivation for example, achieving something, getting a good salary.

“But now everyone works because of the war in Ukraine, because they want to achieve something new, to be stable, to help not only the company but the country also.”
