SBC begins this week’s London Baby sponsor profile by speaking to Thomas Nielson Head of Game Licensing for igaming new comers Magnet Gaming, a Danish company with big ambitions for 2015.

Magnet Gaming develops cutting edge games for online gambling operators, bringing cutting edge cross-platform experiences to igamers. Magnet Gaming are currently growing a portfolio of high quality HTML5-based slot machines and games for browsers on all devices.

SBC: What has your company and its services and operations learned from 2014?

Thomas : We’ve been on a learning curve for over a decade now, since we first launched in social and mobile games. The experience has taught us an awful lot about players and what makes them tick. We’ve applied that to real money slots over the last couple of years in Denmark and been very happy with the results. 2014 has taught us that we’re now ready to take this to a wider audience and partner with operators who are looking for something different and innovative that appeals to a customer base that is currently under-served.

SBC: What new products will your company be delivering in 2015?

Thomas : We’ll be launching in the international market with eight slot titles and have plans to double that by the end of the year. These games are very different to what is on offer elsewhere at the moment. Eighty per cent of research and development goes into the bonus features that are essential to casual casino customers. We also want to adapt some of the features that are popular in social casino and have helped us to achieve very good retention rates.

SBC: What key topics and discussion do you feel will dominate industry in agenda in 2015?

Thomas It has to be regulation, both the positive and negative aspects. Many new markets are opening up, with Holland and Spain in particular looking very attractive. As a result, it has never been more important to offer localised content and tailor products to local audiences. Sadly, governments run the risk of squeezing too hard when it comes to taxation, which will have a negative effect on both operators and suppliers. They have to be careful not to kill the golden goose.

SBC: Which new technology, service or consumer trend will have the biggest impact on the igaming industry in 2015?

Thomas: Things are going to be moving fast. I have worked in traditional (console/PC) gaming for a decade, and have seen how mobile gaming has completely disrupted that market. I think this year we’ll see a similar astonishing growth on the mobile side, and you have to be prepared for this if you want to keep up. HTML 5 is part of the reason why this is happening now. The browser support is there. We’re focused exclusively on working in the format, because it’s going to become the dominant one in the industry. It provides much better business support than other ones available and is far more adaptable.

SBC: Why have you chosen to begin 2015 by sponsoring London Baby 2015?

Thomas :This is our first ICE and we’re keen to meet as many people as we can, be that operators or fellow suppliers. We’ve established a very solid reputation in our home market and have a proven track record of success both in social and real money. We now have an opportunity to tell other people in regulated markets about that. I’m a great believer that as much work and as many valuable meetings take place after shows like ICE as during them. We also like letting our hair down in the evenings!

SBC: Finally can you give SBC readers one industry prediction for 2015?

Thomas : I’m not normally one to make predictions as they often come back to bite you. I think it’s fair to say there will be more mergers and acquisitions in the industry in 2015, though I wouldn’t like to make a guess where exactly. Mobile is obviously going to be a hot topic, and the change in taxation in the UK in particular is going to have a major effect on everyone working in that market. We will see who wins and who loses over the next six to 12 months. One thing I am happy to predict is that you’ll be hearing a lot more about Magnet gaming in the next 12 months!
