Winamax Sports Betting has been named the official sponsor of the PDC European Tour.
The partnership will see the operator become the sponsor of the competition’s events in Germany
The company states that it aims to ‘strengthen the tournament’s position in international darts’ as well as ‘enhance the experience for fans and players’.
Winamax CEOs, Alexandre Roos and Christophe Schaming, commented: “Darts has become one of the most exciting and dynamic sports in recent years.
“The PDC European Tour stands for thrilling matches, an incredible atmosphere, top-tier entertainment, and a passionate fan base – exactly the values that drive us at Winamax. We are excited to become the first tour sponsor of the European Tour and be part of this success story.”
Darts’ popularity over the past couple of years has exploded, particularly in the UK but the shockwave has been felt in other major markets. Betting sponsorships has unsurprisingly come about as a result, with bookmakers looking to tap into the growing fanbase.
Paddy Power is perhaps the most notable example, having sponsored the World Darts Championship (WDC) two years in a row. Other notable sponsors include BetMGM, which sponsors Premier League Darts.
Winamax Sports Betting is now joining the darts marketing rush with the European Tour.
With 14 tournaments in countries including; Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Switzerland, the European Tour is amongst the most significant of competitions in the sport.
“The partnership with Winamax is an important milestone for the PDC European Tour,” added Werner von Moltke, CEO of PDC Europe.
“A strong partner like Winamax will help us further develop darts in Europe and take the tour to a new level. This partnership opens up new opportunities for us to provide an even better experience for the fans.”
The first event in this year’s European Tour took place last week where Luke Littler defended his Belgian Darts Open title with a 8-5 victory against Mike De Decker.
Similarly, last year, NEO.bet was named the new main sponsor of all European Tour events of PDC Europe in Germany and Austria, as the tour continues to delve into sports betting partnerships. A couple of years prior to this, Interwetten was also the main sponsor of these same events.
The Tour first began in 2012 with five events, however the number of fixtures has steadily risen over the years, now up to 14.
