Winamax calls for GlüNeuRStv cooperation joining DSWV

Deutscher Sportwettenverband (DSWV) has announced French betting and gaming group Winamax as the latest member of the German Sports Betting Association.

Founded in 2006, Paris-based Winamax operates France’s biggest online poker room and is recognised as one of the French market’s biggest sportsbook brands.

Expanding its presence within new European markets, in 2021 Winamax was granted a Fourth Interstate Market (GlüNeuRStv) licence to operate its sportsbook offering within Germany’s new federal online gambling regime.

Winamax joins DSWV membership as the trade body continues to urge German stakeholders and Bundesländer (federal states) to demand urgent changes to the GlüNeuRStv market, protecting consumers against an increasing exposure to black market operators.

Managing Directors, Alexandre Roos and Christophe Schaming, explained the need for cooperation with DSWV: “Together, we want to combine our efforts to work with politicians and the public to achieve effective measures to protect players and combat the black market.

“The DSWV will consistently drive forward the containment of illegal betting offers and work to improve the conditions for legal offers.”

2023 proceedings saw Glücksspiel (GGL), the Federal Authority for German Gambling, reject the GlüNeuRStv market findings of DSWV outlined by the ‘Schnabl Report’, which revealed that around half of the online gaming activity in Germany takes place on illegal platforms.

This year will see a critical revision of German gambling regulations as the GGL and Bundesländer settle on terms to amend the German advertising code regulating gambling advertising and marketing conduct. DSWV members will continue advocating for revisions to the GlüNeuRStv laws to foster a safer gambling marketplace.

DSWV President Mathias Dahms noted: “Winamax not only brings impressive expertise and a track record, but also a breath of fresh air from the French market. Together, we aim to promote responsible gaming and raise standards in the sports betting industry.”
