Meridianbet renames Maltese FA Cup in three-year deal

Meridianbet has announced that it has been named the title sponsor of the Maltese FA Cup.

Now officially rebranded as the Meridianbet FA Trophy, the deal aims to underscore the operator’s commitment to supporting local clubs and enhancing the football community in Malta, with an emphasis on ‘promoting national pride and unity’.

Stefan Pavlovic, Director of Meridian Gaming Ltd, commented: “We are thrilled to partner with the Malta Football Association as the title sponsor of the Maltese FA Cup.

“With our 17-year presence in Malta, we have consistently strived to give back to the community. This sponsorship not only supports the growth of football at all levels but also reinforces our ongoing initiatives.”

The annual competition will benefit from the betting brand’s industry experience and community-oriented approach, fostering both amateur and professional football in the region.

The three-year sponsorship agreement aims to emphasise Meridianbet’s ongoing dedication to nurturing sports culture in Malta, as well as the group’s established presence and commitment to the local community.

Malta FA President, Bjorn Vassallo, added: “The Maltese FA is committed to growing and improving the game of football and the people in it at all levels.

“Our partnership with Meridianbet, a company with a deep-rooted presence in Malta, is an ideal fit as we strive to inspire people, achieve high standards and embrace a sporting culture. Together, we aim to foster positive social change and champion national pride.”

MeridianBet Group has recently been acquired by Golden Matrix Group Inc (GMGI).

In January, GMGI agreed terms to acquire EMEA and MeridianBet for €275m ($300m). Completed in April, the deal saw GMGI launch its B2C unit that is now being enhanced by MeridianBet’s expansion into new markets.
