Spelinspektionen and IBIA broker sports betting integrity pact

The Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA), Spelinspektionen, has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) to facilitate better sports betting integrity across the sector.

Both parties will now exchange information on identified suspicious betting activity, with IBIA representing the majority of the betting market licensed under the SGA.

Khalid Ali, IBIA CEO, said: “IBIA is delighted to have reached this agreement with the SGA. The association is focused on working closely with the SGA to maintain the integrity of Swedish sport and the regulated betting market.

“IBIA will utilise its global customer account transaction data to identify and report suspicious betting on Swedish sporting events to the SGA and engage in any related investigatory actions. Maintaining the integrity of the market is of paramount importance.”

Last December, Sweden’s government put out a notice addressed to the European Commission that included plans to reform the gambling framework in the country.

The implementation of the amended rules allows Sweden to become fully compliant with the Macolin Convention, with the SGA being able to work alongside partners like the IBIA to increase information sharing and better safeguard sports from match-fixing.

Camilla Rosenberg, SGA Director-General, added: “It is very important to us that information is shared regarding suspicious betting activity in order to maintain the integrity of sports.

“Therefore, we are delighted to have reached this agreement with IBIA which will be beneficial to our coordination of the national platform and general work against match-fixing. We look forward to our cooperation with IBIA.”
