Smarkets chooses DC as East Coast home for US expansion

Smarkets has opened a new office in the metro area of Washington DC to boost its East Coast US presence and commercial capacity.

The DC office will serve as a commercial hub led by recently appointed US General Manager Sheldon Hanai, who leads the build-up of Smarkets operations and business development resources for its planned US expansion.

“An East Coast office has been in the plans for some time and D.C. appealed to me greatly due to its vibrant tech environment and diverse talent pool.” – Hanai commented.

“It’s also an energetic sports city with all of the major American sports represented, and of course, you’re right in the political and economic centre of the US.”

Smarkets was founded in 2008 by US entrepreneur Jason Trost (CEO), who built the core components of Smarkets Betting Exchange between tech engineering teams located in between London and Los Angeles.

The firm’s SBK mobile sportsbook is currently operational in Colorado, with full launches to follow in Indiana and Iowa in the coming months.

Smarkets founder Jason Trost commented on developments: “I’m extremely excited about opening our Washington office. Adding this new hub for our US operations will be a key step as we grow our American customer base with SBK.”

“DC makes sense for so many reasons and is one of the most globally accessible cities in the country.”

The opening of the new Smarkets Washington DC office is scheduled for Q4 2022.
