MELBET grows African footprint with Kenya entry

As Kenya begins to open up its online betting market, MELBET has confirmed its expansion into the market via its MELBET.ke platform.

By expanding into Kenya, bettors will be able to ‘wager on an international scale’, gaining access to more than 2000 betting markets with features such as cashout, boosted odds, live-in-play betting, VIP gaming and esports wagering.

MELBET Kenya Head of Operations Henry Omollo stated: ”This is only the start of MELBET in Kenya. Our focus is on the people of Kenya and we are extremely delighted to offer Kenyans a product that is reliable, affordable and most importantly trustable to the Kenyan people.

“Our sole purpose is to promote responsible gaming while creating multiple opportunities for the Kenyans. Our Affiliate partnership program is very open to anyone and our rates are amazing and unmatchable in this country.”

The platform will be made available via mobile, desktop and android app, with plans in the pipeline to launch on Opera Mini.

The expansion builds upon MELBET’s footprint in Africa, having already become operational in Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda.

In 2019, the Uhuru Kenyatta government suspended Kenya’s entire sports betting marketplace, blacklisting 27 licensed sportsbooks with regards to contested tax disputes with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

The KRA instructed all national licensed banks and telecoms to terminate payment and mobile M-PESA wallet services for betting firms.
