Betfred expansion points towards Spain

Betfred has this morning confirmed that it will enter the regulated Spanish gambling market, having secured DGOJ licences to operate online B2C sportsbook and casino services.

Entering 2019, the UK legacy betting group underlined its intentions to launch a Spanish online gambling business, seeking to diversify its market make-up and revenue channels.

Confirming Betfred’s Spanish market developments, Group Chief Operating Officer Mark Stebbings said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Betfred and the Spanish licence is part of our ongoing expansion strategy.

“There is clearly a real passion for sport especially football in Spain and we share that passion here at Betfred. We believe we bring the necessary expertise but also heritage and trust in this expanding market.”

In its update, the bookmaker did not specify whether it will operate its flagship Betfred brand or launch a unique property tailored for Spanish betting audiences.

Preparing for its Spanish market entry, last January Betfred confirmed that it had established a new operations hub in the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta to support its existing Gibraltar operations.

At a technical level, Betfred’s new Spanish domain will be powered by Seville-based industry solutions provider OPTIMA, who will act as Betfred’s lead player account management and systems provider.

OPTIMA Commercial director Marta Nikolova added: “OPTIMA is extremely happy and proud to be the trusted technological partner of Betfred for their expansion in Spain. Our experience in this market and the long-term cooperation with Betfred is a guarantee of success for this new operation.”
