Smarkets promotes Tom Hardman to COO following Todd Johnson departure

Fast-growing online betting exchange Smarkets has confirmed the departure of Todd Johnson as Chief Operations Officer (COO).

Johnson, who has served as Smarkets COO since 2016, revealed via LinkedIn that he had departed the London-based online betting exchange, returning to the financial services sector as operations lead for brokerage and wealth management firm GPP Group.

Smarkets’ communications team has confirmed to SBC that Johnson’s executive role will be fulfilled by long-term business operations director Tom Hardman, who is promoted to Smarkets COO in a full capacity.

Further to Hardman’s promotion, Smarkets detailed that it will announce a raft of executive hires in the ‘near future’, as the betting exchange moves to launch its proprietary ‘True Price’ sportsbook in 2019.

Last August, Smarkets undertook initial player BETA tests for its True-Price sportsbook app, allowing select customers to test functionalities and new social interaction features.

Smarkets’ executive team has made little secret of developing its exchange proposition to offer traditional sportsbook services, in which the company believes that it can deliver an unrivalled value for all-levels of betting customers.
