The Chernin Group launches ‘The Action Network’ seeking to become a major US sports player

US media investment firm The Chernin Group has announced the launch of its new sports data vertical The Action Network, seeking to create new insight services for the US fantasy sports and betting markets.

The Action Network which seeks to service the ‘$170 billion+ underserved sports wagering and fantasy markets’, consists of recently acquired assets’ FantasyLabs a DFS-centric data firm, real-time sports app SportsAction and betting/sports insights provider Sports Insights.

The Chernin Group makes its triple play within the sports data market, seeking to combine the best sports insight and analysis with multi-media content for US sports fans’ engagements.

Further to the launch of The Action Network, the Chernin Group confirmed the appointment of Chad Millman former Editor of ESPN as Head of Media for its new sports vehicle.

Led by media mogul and Hollywood movie producer Peter Chernin, the investment firm extends its coverage within US sports. In 2016, Chernin surprised media commentators by acquiring sports portal Barstool Sports for a reported $10 million.

Enhancing its sports dynamics, The Chernin Group states that it wants The Action Network to become the ‘go-to data source’ for all sports fans whether they engage in DFS, wagering or simply watching sports on TV.
