Sky Bet has announced that it suffered its worst ever weekend as the 10 most popular football teams in Saturdays 3pm kick-off won their respective matches, making it a weekend to forget for the UK bookmaker.
The bookmaker saw wins for heavily backed favourites Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Southampton. To add further to Sky Bets misery, unfavourable European football results saw Monaco, Villareal and Porto win their matches.
Further bad news followed for Sky Bet on Sunday as one lucky punter managed to land his £5, 14 fold accumulator, when West Ham beat Hull City 3-0 at the Boleyn Ground. The Liverpool punter took home a colossal £80,000 in winnings.
The operator did not disclose the total sum of its weekend losses to the public, however the company acknowledged that it was its worst ever trading weekend.
Sky Bet Football Trader Chris Spicer commented on the weekend football results “Since Manchester City went off as 3/4 favourites to beat Arsenal, we feared things were only going to get worse for our books.
“Thankfully, the result went in our favour as we clawed back some of the deficit and salvaged a little bit of pride in the process!”
