Betfair informed Austrian customers that it would no longer take wagers on its betting exchange from July 14. The decision was undertaken after a review of the market by senior management.
Betfair operates in Austria, under a regional igaming issued in April 2005 by the country’s gambling commission. Austria represents the firm’s second operational jurisdiction after the UK
Betfair will concentrate on offering fixed-odds sports betting and online casino services in the region.
The operators withdrawal of its betting exchange services will sit in-line with CEO Breon Corcoran, strategy on maximising revenue efficiency and concentrating on licensed European markets.
Betfair withdrew operations from Germany and Greece in 2013. The operator stated that its new strategy had seen £30 million in operational savings.
