Playtech: Public perception positive of LatAm online market

Online gambling players in Latin America are deeply engaged with the sector’s regional standards and politics, Playtech has reported.

With the third edition of its Responsible Gambling Report, the company has taken a deep dive into the preferences and expectations of 2,500 online players across Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Colombia – each market’s intricacies reflected in the study’s responses.

The recent launch of a regulated online gambling market in both Brazil and Peru has significantly strengthened locals’ trust in the sector, with only a combined 25% of customers still actively avoiding betting due to concerns relating to fraud and gambling harms.

Among the observed countries, Peru had the highest rate of player frequency – 92% of those who gamble online do it monthly. Meanwhile, when asked about the level of responsibility that operators should carry towards player protection, 80% of people said that they are in favour of stronger advertising regulations.

Mor Weizer, Playtech CEO, commented: “We are pleased to release our third report on ‘Responsible Gambling: Consumer Insights and Trends in Latin America.’

“Since launching the first edition in 2020, our goal has been to provide the sector with a deeper understanding of the region’s specific needs and challenges as the online gambling sector continues to mature and evolve with new regulations.

“This latest edition provides valuable insights into local market nuances across Latin America.

“Markets like Brazil and Peru present significant opportunities for growth and innovation.”

Strong feelings towards increased advertising regulations were also present in Argentina, with 77% of the respondents there being in support of such measures. Additionally, 88% of online gambling players there said that they’d like to see more age verification measures being implemented – partly due to the recent gambling prominence among Argentine minors.

Responses in Chile confirmed that 63% of users felt safe when using a licensed gambling platform. However, only 15% said that their legislative knowledge is currently up-to-date.

Out of all surveyed markets, Playtech revealed that Colombia is the “most mature”, with 58% of players prioritising the support of a reliable payments provider when deciding which platform to gamble with.

Weizer concluded: “Playtech is excited to play a pivotal role as a technology partner, contributing to the sustainable growth of the online entertainment sector.

“By sharing these insights and fostering knowledge exchange within the industry, Playtech is committed to supporting the long-term success of the sector in Latin America, while also promoting a more responsible and consumer-focused gambling environment.”
