The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has announced that Tim Naylor is stepping down from his role as Director of Integrity and Regulation.
Having spent seven and a half years at the organisation, Naylor was the first Head of Regulation and oversaw the successful completion of the Rules re-write in 2019.
Meanwhile, he has led the Integrity, Regulatory and Safeguarding teams in his current role since 2018.
BHA Chief Executive, Julie Harrington, said on the appointment: “We are very grateful for Tim’s contribution to the BHA and British racing over the past seven and a half years.”
Naylor has detailed that he will be spending some time with his family but will also look to continue with his voluntary Non-Executive Director role at Commonwealth Games Wales and as a Disciplinary and Appeals Chair for the RFU and FAW in the meantime.
The BHA emphasised however that he is likely to return to the bar in the future. Naylor also thanked everyone he worked with at the BHA and in the wider racing industry.
Harrington added: “This has been a significant period for racing, during which we have developed and strengthened our integrity, disciplinary, regulatory and safeguarding functions to ensure the highest standards and bolster participant and public confidence in our sport.
“We wish Tim well for the future.”
In other big news for the BHA, the group has just introduced a new Code of Conduct for British racing which concerns sponsorship agreements with gambling companies.
Supported by the Racecourse Association (RCA), the new Code fulfils a policy proposal for all sports set out in the Government’s 2023 Gambling White Paper and aims to show the sport’s commitment to ensuring all gambling activity is undertaken in a ‘responsible way’.
