In an interview with Fortune Mark Cuban, US businessman and investor, stated his belief that the USA will legalise sports betting.
When quizzed on the recent, and ongoing, investigations into the legality of daily fantasy sports firms such as FanDuel and DraftKings, Cuban said that he believes it is “inevitable” that gambling will be legalised. He added: “It will take some time for the courts to overcome the grandstanding by a few district attorneys, but once that happens I think we will see a slow but sure availability of gambling across the country.”
Cuban is the owner of NBA side Dallas Mavericks and is heavily involved in the world of eSports.
He’s an investor in Unikrn, a primarily betting focussed eSports company, and told Fortune his reasons for investing: “Gambling is available in more than 100 countries. Combine that with the explosive growth of eSports and I saw it as a great investment.”
Cuban personally took part in a recent League of Legends Intel Extreme Masters celebrity tournament for charity with Intel CEO Brian Krzanich, and said: “It was a blast. I wish I had enough time to practice and get good at League of Legends.”
