Betway backs Major League Cricket’s US expansion

Betway has pledged to elevate the standing of professional cricket in the USA by becoming the primary sponsor of Major League Cricket (MLC).

The dealmakers revealed this week that “Major League Cricket Powered by Betway” is a new T20 competition to be hosted at two US venues: Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas and Church Street Park in North Carolina.

The MLC will comprise six teams: Los Angeles Knight Riders; MI New York; San Francisco Unicorns; Seattle Orcas; Texas Super Kings; and Washington Freedom.

Contributing to the promotion of cricket in the US, the MLC tournament will spotlight stars like Faf du Plessis, Kieron Pollard, Quinton de Kock, and Jason Roy among others.

Sameer Mehta, co-Founder of Major League Cricket, stated: “Major League Cricket is bringing the world’s best cricketers to America, so it is fitting that the historic inaugural season will be ‘Powered by Betway’, a brand that has become renowned for supporting global sports properties. We are thrilled by Betway’s commitment to growing cricket in America and we eagerly anticipate the start of a memorable season.”

Betway, the flagship sportsbook brand of Super Group, has a history of backing professional cricket competitions and events, serving as a sponsor of Cricket South Africa. In 2023, Betway became the inaugural sponsor of the SA20, professional cricket’s first global T20 league. This league involved six global franchises, with 102 local and international players participating in 33 matches.

Underlining Betway’s support of cricket, CEO Anthony Werkman proudly announced: “We are delighted to power the inaugural Major League Cricket, the newest innovative cricket competition in the world.

“Cricket is a globally renowned sport that both we and our customers love, so we’re thrilled to be part of another new competition, which will aid the growth of the sport in the US and beyond.”
