Luis Suarez‘s sponsorship deal with poker brand 888 was cancelled this morning as the fall-out from his World Cup biting scandal continues to intensify.
Only a month after becoming one of the poker’s firm’s ambassadors on the back of a wondrous season in the Premier League, the operator has seen fit to give the Liverpool footballer his cards after FIFA banned him from football for four months.
In a brief statement, the company said: “888poker signed Luis Suarez following a fantastic season for which his achievements were widely recognised. Regrettably, following his actions during Uruguay‘s World Cup match against Italy on Tuesday, 888poker has decided to terminate its relationship with Luis Suarez with immediate effect.”#
Given that the ban precludes Suarez from all football activity, even training with his team mates or entering a stadium, Suarez might have had a lot more time on his hands to play poker. But it appears that 888 has decided that an association with Suarez is toxic for the brand and ended its brief partnership with the Uruguayan.
