Svenska Spel to report on sustainable low-risk revenue from August

Svenska Spel will begin publishing new data revealing its revenues generated from customers with a low-risk gambling profile.

The new leadership team, CEO Anna Johnson and Chairman Erik Strand, has pledged to sustainable reporting figures as a commitment from Sweden’s state-owned gambling firm.

Reporting will start at the end of August, with Svenska Spel revealing its sustainable percentage revenues for April to June 2024.

Svenska Spel will base its sustainability metrics on the risk models of its proprietary Playscan tool, developed with the safer gambling studio Sustainable Interaction as an independent party.

CEO Anna Johnson stated: “We are reporting our share of healthy revenues and our efforts to counter gambling problems to show that it is possible to run a gambling company sustainably.

“It is an important step to increase trust in the gaming industry in general.”

2023 figures by Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s Gambling Inspectorate, show that 75% of Swedes engaged in some form of recreational gambling in the past year.

The inspectorate observes that “While most consumers maintain control over their gambling, contributing to substantial revenues for gambling companies, some individuals take greater risks and develop gambling issues.”

In 2022, Svenska Spel joined Kindred Group and ATG to launch a new sustainability charter for Swedish gambling. The trio of companies committed to publishing quarterly reports on safer gambling interactions and interventions for at-risk customers.

Supporting the initiative, Chairman Erik Strand said: “All serious gambling companies work to protect their customers and reduce the number who get into trouble. To increase transparency in the gambling industry, it is important to report the share of healthy revenue, a central part of responsible gambling.”

Svenska Spel notes that it “has worked for the gambling industry to agree on a common measurement method and definition of what constitutes healthy income. However, the industry has not reached an agreement on the issue.”
