UK tabloid newspaper The Sun, part of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp International, is set to target the UK sports betting market with the release of its own white -label online sports betting brand. I-gaming news source Creports that the popular UK newspaper is set to agree terms with sports betting operator BetVictor, who will operate and market the white-label brand on behalf of The Sun.
As yet, no official statement has been made public by The Sun, regarding the launch of its online sport betting services or the partnership with BetVictor. EGaming Review reports that the negotiations between the two parties are at their final stages. BetVictor are thought to have beaten numerous igaming B2B service providers in winning the account to service The Sun.
BetVictor managing director Paul Louis confirmed to EGaming Review – “Discussions are ongoing but we can’t comment further at this stage”.
The UK National Readership Survey (NRS), believes that the newspaper has the biggest coverage and circulation in the UK, its estimates the combined weekly readership of The Sun across seven days at 13.6m in print and online.
The newspaper currently caters operates popular bingo room – SunBingo, to its readership, under a white label partnership with UK igaming operator Gamesys. Sunbingo has become one of the market leaders in the UK online bingo market, with the majority of its player base acquired through promotion on the suns offline and online inventory.
In August 2013 The Sun integrated a paywall for readers of its online content which during the first two months resulted in a 64% drop-off in web traffic.
