This week’s 6 of the Best comes from the CEO and founder of omni-channel virtual sports provider Golden Race.
Martin Wachter is one of the industry’s most established figures, and the Austrian offers a glimpse of life of an international businessman.
Best Holiday
It would have been two years ago in Dubai – it was my first holiday since I started with Golden Race over ten years previously.
For me it was very special, as after that long time of hard work and never giving up, a ten year period where I had subordinated my whole life to the success of my Golden Race dream, it was finally time to relax.
Best Album
‘New Jersey’ by Bon Jovi – it was the first vinyl I ever had when still at school. Two of my favourite songs are ‘Don´t Stop Believin’ by Journey and ‘Learning to Fly’ by Tom Petty. These songs always give me a real good feeling, a feeling that I can reach everything I believe in.
Best Film
Art of War, Wolf of Wall Street, Braveheart, Gladiator. There are many more movies I love, but I really like to watch those movies with a nice glass of wine.
Best Sporting Experience
Not exactly a traditional sporting experience, but my first day as a skiing instructor when I was just 15 sticks out in my mind. My jacket was too big and felt like a coat, and I was nervous like never before. But at the same time I was incredibly proud because I was the youngest ski instructor at the resort – a day I will never forget.
Best Book
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and Signs Getting Rich by Walles d. Wattles. These are my absolute favourite books, I don’t know how many times I’ve read them, but they helped me a lot when things weren’t going well or when I needed some motivation.
Best Bet
This would be with my business partner Thomas who was my boss at that time. He challenged me on my first day, giving me the feeling that I couldn’t do the job. I felt I had to teach him a lesson and offered him a crazy bet to reach a goal what was never reached before in that company in such a short time. I managed to do it, he had to send me and my team to New York for a nice trip. The only downside of it was that from that time on, it was much more difficult to strike any similar kind of bets with him.
