Ahead of the 3-5 May event, we spoke to Easy Payment Gateway COO Jose Manuel Peral about why football is such an attractive sport for betting, how the market is changing from a consumer perspective, and how betting and football stakeholders can work more effectively together.
SBC: Why is football such an attractive sport for betting?
JMP: Football is the most popular sport in the world; matches like Real Madrid vs Barcelona are viewed all around the planet. Also it is the most practiced sport, so I think these two things make it so attractive for betting.
SBC: From a consumer perspective, how is football betting changing?
JMP: The option to bet on different leagues and see all matches at the same time is key. You can also bet at any point during the match, and on markets covering almost everything. The amount of operators is making the industry evolve and think about how to differentiate from competitors.
SBC: How can betting & football stakeholders work better and more effectively together?
JMP: This is a difficult question, because many people are saying that football teams should not be sponsored by betting operators. I guess regulation and more events like this one would be a very good starting point.
SBC: What new technology do you feel will have the biggest impact on football betting?
JMP: The fact that you can withdrawal your winnings at any point of the match or bet on anything with your mobile has a huge impact.
SBC: What key agenda, debate or discussion do you want to hear at BOFCON 2017?
JMP: The debate around LatAm and the Spanish market will be interesting for sure.
