Checkd Dev has partnered with iD Sports Media in launching an app for the Boxing News media outlet.
The long-term commercial partnership will see the mobile app, available on IOS and Android, feature the latest news, views and videos from the Boxing News team.
It will also include free-to-play (FTP) predictions games, interactive live scorecards and bet placement journeys with operating partner bet365.
Adam Patton, Managing Director at Checkd Dev, commented: “We think there is a clear gap for a product like this within boxing, and it’s fantastic for us to be able to partner with someone with the credibility and long-standing tradition such as the Boxing News.
“We are delighted to deliver a product that we believe will resonate strongly with boxing enthusiasts all over the world.”
The launch of the Boxing News app is the first step taken following the multi-year deal between Checkd Dev – the developmental division of Manchester-based sports media firm Checkd Group – and iD Sports Media.
Patton added: “The combination of Checkd Dev’s unrivalled knowledge when it comes to sports betting technology and the contacts and expertise of the iD Sports Media team is a winning one. This launch is the first step in what will undoubtedly be a long and successful partnership.”
Launched in 1909, Boxing News has a reputation for delivering quality, unbiased content in a sport that hasn’t got the cleanest reputation. The sport’s media has also suffered like many other sports, from clickbait content, which Boxing News has steered clear of.
The app has launched at an exciting time in the world of boxing with the increasing involvement of Saudi Arabia in the sport leading to some of the biggest fights in recent years such as Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua’s bout with MMA star Francis Ngannou.
Rob Tebbutt, Managing Director of iD Sports Media, highlighted: “In seeking a partner to deliver the Boxing News app, we looked to identify a developer that could create a compelling product with a slick and intuitive user journey.
“Checkd Dev has provided an app that succeeds in engaging with the audience we know so well. With 2024 shaping up to be a huge year for the sport, we are convinced the Boxing News app will establish itself as a must-have for boxing fans and become an essential part of fight nights for hardcore and casual boxing fans alike.”
The app is also the latest milestone for Checkd Group’s in-house technology division, following the successful launch of its proprietary FlashPicks app across North America last year.
“The team at Checkd Dev have created an app that will help to bring boxing fans closer to the action than ever before,” added Neil Fairweather, Chief Marketing Operations Officer at bet365.
“The Boxing News app is a very engaging product, based around a brand identity that has roots going back more than a century.
“We look forward to working in partnership with both iD Sports Media and Checkd moving forward, as the boxing world prepares for a heavyweight title bout of historical significance.”
Boxing continues to be a source of eye-catching news in 2024, but not just regarding the Saudi Arabia-hosted big money fighters. In more commercial news, the Liverpool-born Smith boxing brothers have launched the Global Fighters Union (GFU), a dedicated trade union to represent athletes across all the disciplines of combat sports.
