Kindred targets 90% greenhouse emissions reduction by 2027

Kindred Group Plc has announced that its climate reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a non-profit initiative created to drive climate action in the private sector.

The Stockholm-listed gambling group has updated its greenhouse gas reduction targets, which were originally outlined in 2020.

New targets, developed in cooperation with SBTi, sees Kindred committed to reduce the absolute scope 1-and-2 greenhouse gas emissions recorded during the base year of 2019 by 90% in the fiscal year 2027.

The firm’s corporate governance has further pledged to reduce absolute scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions 35% within the same timeframe allocated.

SBTi’s validation was marked as an important CSR step for Kindred, which looks to accelerate its reduction in CO2 emissions, and as a business that observes the science-based targets of the Paris Climate Accord.

Group CEO, Henrik Tjärnström, commented: As one of the first companies in the European gambling industry to introduce science-based emission targets in 2020, we are happy to continue to break new ground and to have our adapted targets validated.

“The severity of the climate crisis calls for immediate and resourceful action, and the SBTi plays a key role as an enforcer of significant, science-based progress. For us, this commitment reflects an important notion – there is no time to waste, and we must all do our part.”
