For the final week of the Tipster Challenge in its current format, 888sport Tipster Steve Mullington is back to try and confirm victory for the Guest team at Salisbury. A repeat of his 5.58 points at Musselburgh in February would surely be enough to hold off Stephen Harris in second place.
From Wednesday 5th October until March 2017, we will be focusing on jump race meets. The leaderboard will be sorted according to both total points won and number of races won. Each Guest will be shown individually, with totals from bettingexpert and Timeform shown as a weekly average.
SBC News: Parfait
Has impressed on both his career starts and taken to go a step further today at Salisbury.
Has hinted at better on both starts so far and should relish the emphasis on stamina on the eased ground.
Failed to deliver when odds-on for a minor event on the AW, but his debut at Nottingham was full of promise and he may yet build on that.
888sport: Dance Teacher
In a tricky maiden, it should prove prudent to pick a horse that has raced before and has acted on the ground. Dance Teacher fits that bill perfectly.
SBC News: Koeman
Bred to handle the soft surface, with Mr Tyrell more of a player on fast ground.
Went in the notebook last time and could improve dramatically on the bare form.
Those with experience don’t set the bar that high and it might be worth chancing a newcomer, with Clemento, who cost a fair bit at the sales last year, preferred to Sir Michael Stoute’s Sable Island.
240,000 guineas purchase Clemento has to be respected for the Richard Hughes yard. Andrea Atzeni is a positive jockey booking.
SBC News: Eqtiraan
Given his defeat of Rivet last month, it would rank as a surprise if he was beaten here at Salisbury.
bettingexpert: Scorching Heat
Hails from a stable in terrific form and has scope to do a lot better as he matures with more racing.
The drop back to 6f will suit the speedily-bred Eqtiraan, who looked a good prospect when making a winning debut at Ascot and built on that when third in a Group 3 next time, despite failing to settle.
Highly unoriginal but Eqtiraan is going to take all the beating here. His beating of Rivet last month is a very strong form line.
SBC News: Pettochside
Shown great form all summer; top three finishes in the last seven outings.
bettingexpert: Hope Cove
Has had two months off to freshen up and has been given a chance by the handicapper with conditions to suit.
The majority of these look pretty exposed, the glaring exception being Foresight, who did the job in good style at Hamilton last time and this well-bred could turn out to be better than his current mark implies.
Pettochside loves the soft going and has been ultra-consistent this season. Josephine Gordon is booting home the winners this week, so what can possibly go wrong here?
SBC News: Master Carpenter
In good form and will appreciate the return to softer ground at Salisbury in today’s feature race.
bettingexpert: Master Carpenter
Deserves a win after holding his form all summer and this easier ground is bang in his favour.
The 3-y-o thumped his rivals from the front at Doncaster last month, and his admittedly disappointing display at Goodwood 15 days later can probably be attributed to the switch back to patient tactics, rather than the 12lb rise he incurred when winning on Town Moor.
888sport: Landwade Lad
Today’s feature race can go the way of the “tall man” and the in-form Oisin Murphy. Landwade Lad was last seen running a creditable second behind Mount Logan on good to soft ground.
SBC News: Hearty
Has shown improvement all summer, with victories on the last two outings in June.
Comes here fresher than most after just two runs this season and can defy top weight.
Timeform: Knight Commander
This step up in trip should suit Knight Commander, who acquitted himself well in 0-85 company here on his penultimate start and is 3lb lower in the weights now.
888sport: Miss Tiger Lily
Having seen Miss Tiger Lily run in person at Haydock last time out in an amateur race, I am sure she has every chance of following up here. She is ably assisted by the title chasing Jim Crowley today.
SBC News: Wynford
8lb weight rise, but looked good when stepping up in distance to win at Carlisle three weeks ago.
Had an excuse for a lesser effort last time out and could go close if back on form.
Timeform: Glorious Legend
Latest effort at Lingfield represented a step forward and, with the prospect of better to come on just his third start over this trip and conditions to suit, he earns the vote.
Rumour has it that the winning team in the SBC Tipster Challenge will land an all-expenses paid trip to the seaside? That being the case, it would be rather apt that the luckless Torquay won the lucky last for the Guests. Put your bucket and spade on it!
