OKTO makes latest Romanian omnichannel push with Superbet

Superbet has become the latest Romanian betting firm to partner with OKTO, incorporating the fintech firm’s omnichannel payments solution.

The operator has integrated OKTO’s platform across its retail and online channels to create ‘digital payment experiences’ for its customers, in particular highlighting the adoption of the OKTO.WALLET solution in self-service betting terminals.

This has been completed across 1,000 points of sale throughout Romania, with plans to further extend the solution to electronic gaming machines, as Superbet pursues a digitised payments strategy.

Ciprian Lazăr, Director for Romania Retail & Multichannel Operations at Superbet Group, said: “We are a company with global growth ambitions that pays close attention to its customers’ demands but also to the latest technological developments.

“OKTO is widely recognized as the market-leading digital payment provider. It offers complementary solutions to Superbet’s digital strategy that are in line with the group’s efforts on responsible gaming and compliance with all legal provisions imposed by market regulators in countries where our group and its brands are active.”

Concerning online betting, Superbet will adopt the OKTO.CASH e-voucher solution by integrating the platform with Nuvei’s alternative payment methods (APMs).

Technological innovation – particularly digitisation and omnichannel operations – has been earmarked as a key objective for Superbet following American investment fund Blackstone’s acquisition of shares in the firm back in 2019.

Targeting international markets with strong regulatory frameworks for betting and gaming, Superbet’s tech strategy has included the recent partnership with OKTO, as well as a deal with sportstech and data group Genius Sports late last year.

Luca Giancola, Head of Antifraud, Payments & Risk Payments at Superbet Group, remarked: “Innovation is in our DNA, and it is important to work with solutions that are coming from people who understand the intricacies of the gaming industry and who use advanced technology to deliver the very best payment solutions to our customers.

Our strategy is in line with the one of OKTO and there is a shared commitment to invest in the delivery of the best possible experience at every stage and channel of the customer journey.”

Meanwhile, for OKTO, the agreement is the firm’s second in Romania after terms were agreed with retail operator GSbet in December 2022, rolling out its cashless payments solution.

By partnering with OKTO, Superbet has detailed overall aims to drive forward its technological innovation, digitisation and omnichannel strategy, as well as enhance compliance and safer gambling standards.

Simon Dorsen, OKTO’s Chief Commercial Officer, commented: “Our partnership with Superbet is fully aligned with our mission not only to digitalize the physical payment experience as demanded by modern consumers, but also to provide users with the ability to transact across several touchpoints and channels seamlessly, in a secure manner via a unified payment experience.”
