Industry news source EGR Magazine has revealed that Sky Betting & Gaming has shut down its social games divisions, ending its two year venture in the social gambling space.
The operator had begun social gambling initiatives in 2013, hiring former Facebook EMEA Gaming Manager Bruce Bale to lead its social games development as Head of Social Games.
Under a partnership with social games platform and white-label provisions provider OpenWager, Sky Betting & Gaming launched social title Sky Hollywood Slots on Facebook, iOS and Android platforms.
In a competitive environment, the social games product failed to gain traction. A close inspection of its Facebook product displays that Sky Hollywood Slots gained 600 players since its launch. Sky Hollywood Slots operations will be closed in the coming weeks.
EGR Magazine has further detailed that Bale has departed the Leeds based operator. Sky Betting & Gaming who were acquired in January by private equity group CVC Capital for £800 million, will likely concentrate in the expansion of its core products.
