Apple has officially launched Apple Sports – an app which allows users to check scores, team stats, betting odds, and more across a number of major sports leagues.
The app supports the Premier League, NBA, NCAA basketball, NHL, Bundesliga, LaLiga, Liga MX, Ligue 1, Serie A as well as MLS – which Apple has exclusive streaming rights to.
Additional leagues which will become available on Apple Sports over time include MLB, NFL, NCAAF, NWSL and WNBA for their upcoming seasons.
Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services, commented: “We created Apple Sports to give sports fans what they want – an app that delivers incredibly fast access to scores and stats.”
In detail, Apple Sports aims to give fans a ‘simple and fast’ solution to stay up to speed on teams and leagues.
The app itself does not support betting, and Apple says users can disable betting odds if they want to.
Cue added: “Apple Sports is available for free in the App Store, and makes it easy for users to stay up to date with their favourite teams and leagues.”
Meanwhile, users can customise their scoreboards on Apple Sports by following their favourite teams, tournaments, and leagues, Apple emphasised.
Fans can navigate between scores and upcoming games; explore play-by-play information, team stats, lineup details, and live betting odds, and tap to go to the Apple TV app to watch live games from Apple and connected streaming apps.
Apple Sports will also seamlessly sync with favourites selected within the My Sports experience including in the Apple TV app and Apple News.
Apple has explored the sports industry in recent years by buying rights and airing MLB and MLS games.
It also added additional sports journalism to its News app and aired sports-related documentaries about sports teams on Apple TV.
