Betsson reinforces dedication to Swedish padel

Betsson has become the official title sponsor of the A1 Padel Swedish Master tournament, which is taking place between 10-16 July.

The Halmstad-based competition offers a prize pool of one million SEK (€86.5k / £74k), and involves top-ranked players such as Maximiliano Arce and Franco Dal Bianco, as well as Leo “Tolito” Aguirre.

A1 Padel, formerly known as APT, was originally scheduled to be held in Båstad, Sweden last year but faced a last-minute relocation to Tenerife. 

Mattias Wennerkvist, Managing Director of Betsson Sweden, said: “We are immensely proud to support A1 Padel in Halmstad. As keen followers of the sport, it is an honour for us to be associated with this event, just as we have been for numerous other padel initiatives over the years. 

“Our dedication goes beyond mere sponsorship, as we will closely follow the intense action, conduct exclusive player interviews, provide competitive betting odds, and, above all, enjoy the privilege of witnessing world-class padel unfold before our eyes.”

The A1 tour spans across 18 locations worldwide, with Halmstad now joining cities like New York, Miami, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, and Cape Town already on its roster.

In March this year, Betsson also announced that Swedish padel player Cayetano Rocafort had become a new ambassador and partner of the company. 

Spanish-born Rocafort, who now lives in Stockholm, has been ranked number one in his country since 2021.

“Padel has been around for much longer in Spain, but Sweden is stepping in. In addition to the great interest here in Sweden, we are now seeing more and more players who invest wholeheartedly and we are starting to compete seriously,” the player said.

On Betsson’s latest deal, he concluded: “I have lived in Sweden for five years and witnessed how quickly the sport has developed. The Betsson Swedish Master is another great example of how it’s thriving and I’m very excited to see world-class padel players from all over the world.”

Last year, the operator also launched Sweden’s first nationwide amateur tournament – Betsson Padel Tour – which the company reported was ‘highly successful’.
