Bookmakers can’t pick a favourite in roaring reality TV markets

This summer’s Celebrity Big Brother (CBB) hasn’t even been on our screens for two weeks, but it has already enticed British gamblers.

Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati told SBC that: “CBB is as popular as ever with punters” adding that “despite it running for a much shorter period than the ‘normal’ version of the show, the amount of bets we’ve taken so far leads us to believe that we could end up seeing twice as much interest in this series as we did in the series just gone.”

When the doors to the Big Brother house flung open on launch night, Shaun Williamson was a heavy favourite, however, the markets have gone south for the Eastenders’ star, who now finds himself a 10/1 outsider.

The new 4/1 front-runner is Sandi Bogle, nonetheless, nothing is in the bag yet for the Gogglebox legend as she is closely followed atop the betting by former Girls Aloud star, Sarah Harding.

Apati told SBC: “Shaun entered the house as favourite but in truth Sandi hasn’t had to do all that much to leapfrog him into that spot.

“We have her down as the people’s housemate and she’s considered the most relatable celeb in there which has clearly had an impact on the odds thus far.

“As far as market movers go, Sarah’s name springs to mind immediately. Her odds have been up and down since entering but the support she’s had from the public has been fantastic, forcing our traders to slash her odds even further – making her the clear second favourite at 4/1 as things stand.”
